Design & Storage
What makes good storage design?
Good design is not just about jamming in all the latest accessories. Design has purpose. Storage needs convenient access while providing enough space for all your stuff. The process of bringing a living space up to date can change the room’s whole appearance. Factors like utilizing the natural contours already present while not obstructing habitual traffic or work flow is very important.
In a kitchen, for instance, keeping a basic triangle is important. There is a working triangle that exists between the sink, refrigerator, and stove. Good design relieves the congestion that can occur there.
At times, a large remodel isn’t always appropriate. Good design might not include re-framing walls or making other drastic changes to a room’s contour and layout. Construction should always be kept to a minimum.
By reducing expensive plumbing and electrical costs where possible, there is also less downtime for some of the most used areas of the home. In fact, our average install time generally takes around 2 days, depending on the material chosen. Granite and other solid surfaces may take longer.

How long does it take?
It generally takes 6 weeks to build the cabinets before they are ready to be installed. In the meantime, there are several stages of work that can be completed during the time that the cabinets are being built. Generally framing, plumbing, electrical work, insulation and sheet-rocking can be scheduled in a such a fashion that there is very little downtime. That’s our goal!
How do I start designing my kitchen?
The most important thing is to already have an idea of what you’d like your kitchen to look like. Check out magazines, popular websites, as well as some of the ideas presented here. If we are able to see what you want, we have a better idea of how to make your vision work for your home.
In the design part of it, you may already be forming preferences for your favorite wood type and door styles, counter top design, and other building material. However, some accessories are already part of the great majority of jobs we do. For instance, popular accessories like Lazy Susannes for corner cabinets are generally always figured in. Drawer dividers, sink tip-outs, trash roll-outs, spice racks, recycle bins, mixer lift accessories are all available upon request.
Will your kitchen include new appliances? It is important to be sure that the appliances have already been chosen and purchased before construction begins so that cabinets are sized to fit optimally around them.
Most people need a little help visualizing just how their home will be transformed. We find that drawings help a lot with communication, because they get a really good representation of what the living space will eventually look like. At the end of the day it is important everyone goes home with a good idea of what to expect.
When we come to visit, we take our own measurements – where windows currently are, where doorways are placed, etc. All of this information goes onto a CAD program, where we can generate a basic 3D representation or elevation of the area being remodeled. This really helps the home owner get the sense of their design while allowing more ideas to flow.
